Facing Front: A photo essay of Comic Con

  • Facing front
    An assembly of true believers
  • I've been attending the San Diego Comic Con for about 15 years now.

The metamorphosis from Fanboy nerd-fest to pop cultural juggernaut has left me a bit bewildered.

This book is an attempt to get my head around it once again - by pointing a camera at it.

Shot over two days with a Nikon D80 and only one lens - a cheapo Sigma 35mm that shoots so hot I had it stepped down a stop and a half the entire time.

The square format was a conscious self challenge - frankly it's an ugly shape - and a nod to the classic comic book panel.

I'm not sure if the result has helped me feel better about the 'Con's new status - but I am happy with the images.
